Life Transitions
three: arrival
So now, here you are!
Congratulations???
Close, but not quite yet , . .
Even under the best of circumstances, major adjustments like this one take time. Don't expect to feel instantly comfortable. Remind yourself frequently that mild to moderate feelings of anxiety, loneliness, and sadness are normal during this time, and they don't necessarily point to anything that is wrong with you or your new environment.
It's common to seek aupport and guidancc even through these early days. Engaging in a therapeutic process can bring about deeper self awareness, improved coping skills, and increased clarity of purpose.
And remember, it's not uncommon for a leave-taking to be incomplete.
When there's a lot left unresolved, therapy can serve
to help you to work it through and move forward
However . . . if you notice any of the following signs, there is an important or even urgent need for therapeutic intervention:
-
Feeling very sad or depressed
-
Difficulty sleeping or eating, or engaging in excessive amounts of either.
-
Functioning at a lower level than is usual
-
Continual or elevated anxiety

-
Feeling hopeless
-
Fear of going outside or coming into contact with others.
-
Thoughts of self harm
-
Functioning poorly or unable to function
-
Little or no contact with family and friends

Once issues like these are are treated
the capacity for forward movement expands.
